Bluebird in the Crabapples
This pastel pencil
sketch of a male bluebird feeding in a crabapple tree was done on
dark green acid-free art paper. Crabapples (over 800 cultivars of
Malus species are known, with more being developed each year)
are a beautiful spring-flowering tree valued for their flowers, and
relatively short stature. Crabapples are a special treat for most
wildlife from early fall until the last berries have been devoured.
Eastern Bluebirds, Sialia sialis,
hang out in small flocks during wintertime. For warmth on cold nights,
they huddle close together in the woods and shrubbery. Early in the
springtime, they spread out over the fields and backyards to pair
off and raise their young. The original pastel pencil drawing, presented
in a 1.5" wide cherry wood frame (double matted in acid-free celery
green on bluebird blue to an outer dimension of 17" x 15"), is available
for $720.00. Limited edition prints and note cards are also available.
