Great Egret
Reflections I created this
black-and-white image by cutting a black paper square into a nature design that
could not easily be put back into its original shape, then affixing all the
pieces onto a white paper background. The black positive shape of the egret and
its white reflection in the water was intended as a surprise element.
In the United States, the Great Egret,
Ardea alba, used to be called the American egret but its name was
changed because this large all-white wading bird is found across much of the
world. It ranges from southern Canada southward to Argentina, as well as
Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Apart from size, the great egret can be
distinguished from other white egrets by its yellow bill and black legs and
feet. The original cut-paper image,
presented in a 0.75" wide black wood frame with thin silver stripe (single
matted in acid-free black-core white to an outer dimension of 17" x 15"), is
available for $450.00. Limited edition prints and note cards are also
available.
