Paphiopedilum
Orchid "Maudiae" The painting was
done in a very exacting botanical style but the background was purposely
executed loose and watery for a painterly contrast and a more restful overall
mood. For over 20 years, Mom and I have
raised orchids for a hobby. Periodically when I visited, we would drive to
A&P Orchids in Swansea, MA and wander through their five greenhouses. After
much deliberation, we'd purchase the "most beautiful" blooming plant of all. We
especially like the paphiopedilums, or lady-slipper orchids. Striking plants,
they are easy to grow and bloom once or twice a year with a little
understanding of their requirements. Water only once a week and consult an
orchid growing guide for light, soil, and fertilizing requirements.
Considered the world's favorite "paph,"
Paphiopedilum Maudiae enchants all with its green-albino colorations and
striking form. 'The Queen' is an outstanding variety; the flower measures five
inches across and has a unique, frosty texture; leaves are robust and
beautifully variegated. The watercolor,
presented in a 2.5" wide dark grey hardwood frame (triple matted in forest
green suede light pink on forest green with an outer dimension of 27.5" x 23"),
is available for $1,500.00. Limited edition prints and note cards are also
available.
