Apricot Spider Conch
This jewel-like watercolor
shows up especially well on white paper with no background to distract
from its natural curvaceous spines and the pure apricot color of the
shell. The apricot spider conch, Lambis crocata, is an Indo-west
Pacific species found on reef bottoms among living colonies and dried
boulders of coral at low tide levels to about 33 feet. The animal
inside is a local source of protein while the shell is an international
trade product. The species ranges from East Africa, Mozambique, countries
along the Red Sea and Persian Gulf, to eastern Polynesia, southern
Japan, North Queensland, and New Caledonia.
The framed original watercolor
painting, presented in a 1.25" wide silvery stressed wood frame (double
matted in acid-free pebbled cream on lavender blue with an outer dimension
of 16" x 18"), is available for $425.00. Limited edition prints and
note cards are also available.
