Snipe's Bill
Murex This beautiful specimen from
my personal shell collection was lightly sketched in pencil, washed with
delicate watercolors, and finished with dry-brush technique done using fine
brushes. I left the background white paper untouched to focus attention on the
intricacies of the shell. Although named
for American game birds, the Snipe's Bill or Woodcock Murex, Haustellum
haustellum, is an Indo-West Pacific reef-associated gastropod (a single
shelled mollusk). The species ranges from East Africa to Melanesia, north to
Japan and south to Queensland and New Caledonia
The original watercolor, presented in a 1" wide stressed
cherry wood frame (double matted in an acid-free tan on rust mat; outer
dimension 14" x 17"), is available for $775.00. Limited edition prints and note
cards are also available. Click here for availability and price. |
