Beach Kites I painted this whimsical watercolor of kites on a sunny summer day
at one of the most beautiful Atlantic Ocean beaches while my son Scott and
husband Ken surf fished. When we lived in Wallops Island, VA, we often went to
the Assateague Island National Seashore early in the morning before the parking
lot was full. Usually we parked in the northernmost lot just back from the
dunes and walked to where there were no lifeguards. Here the beach had less
people, more families, and sometimes the famous Chincoteague ponies visited
sunbathers. A special treat for the children was when the Kite Koop on
Chincoteague's Main Street flew its 60-foot dragon kite and large streamer
kites that created colorful loop-the-loop maneuvers. I.
The original watercolor is in a private
collection but limited edition prints and note cards are available.
