Dune Tracery

This delicate watercolor of American beachgrass in a predominantly blue palette, the tracery of natural shadows created by steady onshore breezes, and the single ship off in the distance is a unique sight. Not a footprint in the sand from man or beast mars the tranquility of this scene.

Sandy beach is the most extensive habitat along the western Atlantic Ocean of the United States. It stretches from beautiful sandy patches nestled amongst rocky outcrops in Maine to extensive sandy beaches from Massachusetts to the Mid-Atlantic States southward to Florida and into the Gulf of Mexico. Scenes such as this are diminishing as coastal property is bought up and developed into housing projects, condominiums, hotels, and businesses.

The framed original watercolor is in a private collection but limited edition giclée prints of the original painting and note cards are available.
