Dr. Donna DeMoranville Turgeon is an artist who paints what she knows and loves best – the outdoors. She renders her botanical and wildlife subjects with the accuracy of a classical biological illustrator, positioning them in backgrounds that tell of their behavior, ecology, and preferred habitat.
Donna grew up on a small farm in East Freetown, Massachusetts, a rural coastal community just north of New Bedford, where she was born. She had an impressive portfolio by her senior year in High School. She has a degree in Fine Arts.
Having grown up in the country, she trained as a marine ecologist, she recently retired as a scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Residing in Fairfax Station, Virginia she leads an active life, playing senior softball on both women and co-ed teams. Her hobbies include hunting, fishing, SCUBA diving, archery, photography, working out, grand-parenting and painting the subjects she encounters.
Donna Turgeon is the owner of ART a la Carte Gallery in Occoquan, Virginia and is an award winning artist who began drawing and painting as a child. She also is a scientist with 30 years experience as a biological oceanographer, marine ecologist and diver. She is a published scientific illustrator and author of 50 journal articles and books. Her scientific background gives her a unique insight into the subjects she paints, that include seascapes, birds, and other animals. In the next few years, Donna plans to add coral reefs and African wildlife to her art repertoire.
